from
the Surrey County Council Website :-
"Waste and waste management are important issues here in Surrey.
We currently generate more than 580,000 tonnes of household waste per
year in Surrey alone. That is not including waste from shops, offices
or other business, or from construction or agriculture.
Generating this amount of waste causes huge problems as our current
method of disposal for non-recycled household waste is solely to landfill.
The main way we are seeking to change this is to encourage recycling.
The overall recycling rate for Surrey as a County is 18% which is above
the national average but below what we could achieve."
One must estimate that the total for Surrey is over 1 million tons, when
all shops, offices, etc are considered. This may average 1 ton per person
per year
I am investigating further what happens at the moment in terms of landfill
disposal, incineration, etc.
Nationwide, the space available for landfill is expected to run out in
the next 5 to 10 years.

I hope to
include a picture here
of a 1000 ton pile of
household waste.
This would be 0.1% of Surrey annual production
I hope to organise this soon
